And so this is Christmas

Let's hope it's a good one, without any fear.” - John Lennon, artist, poet & peace activist.

With the lockdown and the uncertainty about 2021, I feel more anxiety and sadness than usual around Christmas. As if a mood of resentment had taken control of my life and joy and gratitude were less accessible. Many executives also report a change of mood within their organisation. Resentment and resignation distract the whole system from its purpose and the cost is high: less energy, less agility, and less focus on what really matters. Mood shapes actions. When those actions are not aligned with what we care about most, one of the priorities is to change the mood.

In 2021, good leaders will be remembered for their ability to reshape collective moods.

Where to start? Be the change. Your mood will influence the one of your organization. And if you are not responsible for the one you are in, you are responsible for what you do with it. A client shared with me last week how asking himself the same two questions over and over again has helped him set the right mood in his organisation :

  • How to bring peace in my life and my company?

  • What can I start doing to open the way to more healthy ambitions?

Knowledge is about answers. Wisdom is often just about staying with the right question. This time, stay with the question. It might gradually bring you back into the right mood.

A very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I hope it's a good one, without any fear.

With gratitude,

Manu
